Steubenville STARS Program:
Supporting Transitions, Abilities, Resilience, and Success

In 2024, Steubenville City Schools proudly launched the Steubenville STARS Program, opening a new chapter in its commitment to supporting students with disabilities. Located at Steubenville High School, STARS provides an inclusive, supportive environment where every student is empowered to discover their strengths, reach their full potential, and become a valued member of the Big Red family.

The name STARS reflects the heart of the program's mission: Supporting Transitions, Abilities, Resilience, and Success. Every day, students are encouraged to build confidence, develop independence, and celebrate their unique abilities through individualized instruction and meaningful opportunities for growth.

Serving students from Preschool through Grade 12, the STARS Program unites dedicated teachers, therapists, paraprofessionals, and support staff who are passionate about helping every learner succeed. With classrooms spanning preschool, elementary, intermediate, middle school, and high school, the program provides a seamless continuum of personalized support throughout each student's educational journey.

Housed on the Steubenville High School campus, STARS offers students access to engaging learning environments, specialized therapy services, a sensory room, life-skills instruction, and individualized transition planning. Just as importantly, students participate in school life alongside their peers, creating opportunities to learn together, build meaningful friendships, and develop a true sense of belonging within the Big Red community.

One of the program's most impactful partnerships is with Educators Rising, where high school students preparing for careers in education work alongside STARS students in classrooms and activities. This collaboration creates authentic learning experiences for everyone involved. STARS students benefit from positive peer interactions, increased confidence, stronger social connections, and age-appropriate friendships, while future educators gain invaluable hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of inclusive education. Together, they foster a culture of compassion, respect, acceptance, and belonging that extends throughout the school community.

Since its inception, the Steubenville STARS Program has become a shining example of Steubenville City Schools' unwavering commitment to ensuring every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. By celebrating abilities, embracing inclusion, and inspiring resilience, STARS continues to make a lasting impact on students, families, and the entire Big Red community. It stands as a reminder that when every student is given the opportunity to shine, the entire community shines brighter together.
